چکیده

Absorption and luminescence spectra as well as luminescence lifetimes have been measured for Ru(bpy)2þ 3 in solution and in thin films of varying thicknesses, and these properties have been correlated with the efficiency of organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) made of the films. The lifetimes decrease for films below about 50 nm in thickness but are relatively constant for thicknesses above about 100 nm. This behavior is consistent with a model in which quenching is caused both by intrinsic properties of the molecules and by Förster energy transfer between chromophores that carries the excitation to surface layers, where the excitation is more efficiently quenched. The external quantum efficiency of the OLEDs is also found to increase with thickness, approaching 1% for thicknesses near 200 nm.

Tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) electrogenerated chemiluminescence sensor based on carbon nantube dispersed in sol–gel-derived titania–Nafion composite films

A highly sensitive and stable tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)3) electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was developed based on carbon nanotube (CNT) dispersed in mesoporous composite films of sol–gel titania and perfluorosulfonated ionomer (Nafion). Single-wall (SWCNT) and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) can be easily dispersed in the titania–Nafion composite solution. Th...

Directional photoinduced electron transfer in paraquat silicate thin films containing entrapped ruthenium(II)-tris(bathophenanthroline-disulfonate).

We have demonstrated directional photoinduced electron transfer in paraquat silicate thin films containing entrapped ruthenium(II)-tris(bathophenanthroline-disulfonate (RuBPS). The films were made by electrochemically-induced hydrolysis of a silane analogue of paraquat with ruthenium(II)-tris(bathophenanthroline-disulfonate as its ion pair.

Chemiluminescence from the reaction of tin(II) with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III).

Unlike many other metal and metalloid ions, tin(II) elicits intense, analytically useful chemiluminescence upon reaction with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III) in acidic aqueous solution. This finding provides new insight into the nature of this widely used reagent and has enabled the first direct, selective determination of a metal ion with tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(III).

Stability of thin-film solid-state electroluminescent devices based on tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes.

The factors affecting the operating life of the light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on films of tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) both in sandwich (using an ITO anode and a Ga:Sn cathode) and planar (using interdigitated electrode arrays (IDAs)) configurations were investigated. Stability of these devices is greatly improved when they are produced and operated under drybox condit...
